Sweden, events and charities for the Year of Mercy

The calendar of events that will mark the Year of Mercy in the Diocese of Stockholm, from the opening of the Holy Doors of the Cathedral on December 13th to the closing of the doors on November 13th 2016, has been disclosed. The Year will be celebrated with 15 events in the main cities of Sweden, officiated by bishop Anders Arborelius, such as Mass for the Homeless and a celebration with the religious orders in February to mark the end of the Year of Consecrated Life. The ecumenical event on Mercy will take place in Lund, on October 31st 2015, with a celebration with the other Christian confessions. In addition to the calendar, the Diocesan Pastoral Council has developed and provided the parishes with “40 great ideas to practice mercy”. It is a brief list of suggestions to experience mercy in the communities, ranging from the collection of warm clothes to initiatives for the inclusion of new members; suggestions include visits to the city’s homeless, or a weekly tea for the community’s elderly. Many ideas are about the refugees: from organising language courses to activities with mothers of pre-school children. The 39th idea is calling everyone to do a deed of mercy a day.
