Moscow: Debate on “The family is not a jail for love, but the guarantee of its freedom”

A meeting to talk about the family will be held at the Palace of the Curia in the Archdiocese of the Mother of God in Moscow tonight. The meeting, which is organised in co-operation with the “Doors of Pokrovsky” cultural centre, is meant to give an account of the “Synod of Bishops through an eyewitness”. Indeed, the Archbishop of Moscow Paolo Pezzi will speak on the theme “The family is not a jail for love, but the guarantee of its freedom”. The Archbishop represented the Russian Bishops’ Conference at the recent Synod on the Family. During his three weeks in Rome, he wrote a diary of the meeting which was later published in Russian on the Archdiocese’s website. The meeting in Moscow will be an opportunity to reflect on the “future of the family in our world”, explain the organisers. Despite the fact that for many people “it may seem rather useless, inconvenient and even superfluous”, and that many believers are increasingly seeing “the Church teaching on marriage as outdated and inapplicable to modern life”, the Church is seeking new ways to “proclaim the Gospel of the Family”.
