Pope Francis: to German Bishops, “continue to welcome refugees”

“Continue to meet the challenge of this large number of people in need”, that is, “the hundreds of thousands of refugees who have come to Europe or have set off to seek refuge from war and persecution”. Pope Francis addressed this invitation to the members of the German Bishops’ Conference on their “ad limina” visit to the Vatican who were received in audience today. “The Christian Churches and many individual citizens in your country are offering a great deal of assistance in the reception of these people, giving them support and making them feel welcome”, the Pope remarked. “In the spirit of Christ – he said – we want to continue to meet the challenge of this large number of people in need. At the same time, we are supporting all humanitarian initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions in their countries of origin”.
