Czech Republic: series of debates on migration and attitude of Catholic Church taking place in Prague

(Bratislava) Migration and the Catholic Church’s attitude to this phenomenon is at the center of a series of discussions organized by the Archdiocese of Prague in collaboration with several pastoral institutions and parishes in Prague. The first of the debates between lawyer and politician Pavel Svoboda and theologian Benedikt Mohelnik took place on 12 November, with a focus on discerning where “love for our neighbours ends and international politics begins”. The second discussion entitled “Migration, coordination and collaboration” is scheduled for tonight, with Klara Boumova from Caritas Czech Republic and Petr Novak from the Asylum and Migration Policy Section of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as main speakers. “We want to talk about concrete activities and projects of collaboration between the state and the Church with one aim – to solve this peculiar problem and seek concrete ways to integrate migrants into the Czech society”, explain the organizers of the event. The last debate about “foreigners and patriots” with an emphasis on the rationality of views and prevention of prejudices, will be held on 25 November between historian and philosopher Milos Havelka and French journalist living in Prague, Fabrice Martin Plichta.
