Slovakia: registrations open for humanitarian project “Good News”

(Bratislava) – The Christian Children Communities Movement (eRko) in Slovakia opens the 21st edition of the biggest Christian charitable project “The Good News”. Its main aim is to collect money for the support of development and educational projects in African countries. Formation meetings for coordinators will take place in November and December in all regions. “This is a special project, as the money is collected by Christmas carollers who visit the households, communities, institutions, and even the highest state representatives – including the president of the Slovak Republic – counting on the fact that during the Christmas season, people are more open, generous, and have a strong sense of solidarity with people in need”, explain the eRko coordinators. Each parish needs to register on the website www.dobranovina.sk Last year, the carollers collected almost €950,000, which makes the project one of the biggest humanitarian campaigns in the country. “There are many schools, clinics, and hospitals in Africa run by the Church. Local dioceses are our partners in this project and they ensure that the solidarity of people really reaches those who desperately need it”, say the coordinators. The carollers will get a special blessing for their mission by the bishop of their diocese. The collection will last from 24 December 2015 until 6 January 2016.
