European Bishops: Message for St Martin’s Day: “peace is also serving life and families”

“Peace must be Europe’s first goal, but for this to happen our continent must be more realistic”. This was written by the Bishops of the CCEE Commission “Caritas in Veritate”, in their reflection on the social situation of Europe, published today for St Martin’s Day. “A safe Europe that is in turn a source of safety is an ordered Europe, where the social institutions are properly put in the right place. Failing to respect life and families means creating conflict and weakening peace. The same applies to the contempt or even the persecution of religion, especially the Christian religion, or to raising young people of an ethical anarchy. If justice is not guaranteed and if the judicial power tends to replace not only the other two powers but also the ethos of peoples, demanding to restructure it, conflict becomes a dead-end street”.
