Netherlands: Verus, Association of Catholic Schools, a workshop on leadership and spirituality

“Spirituality and leadership. The art of understanding what can happen”: this is the general theme of the “2015 Identity Day” that will be celebrated tomorrow November 11th in Nijmegen on the initiative of Verus, the Dutch Association of Catholic Schools. “Leadership is not a trick to steer people where you want using special organisational tricks. It is not even the same as management”, the organisers explain. “Leadership is the ability to give people and organisations room to grow as much as they can”. These are the themes of the 1-day workshop that will be opened by the speeches of Margaret Schneider, director of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utrecht, and Chris Hermans, professor of religious studies and scientific director of Verus. This will be followed by the speeches of four headmasters who will tell about their experiences. The conference will go on with a number of themed workshops. Verus is an association that brings together over 4 thousand Dutch primary, high, secondary and vocational schools, and intends to provide training and advice to parents, teachers and headmasters, “for better quality education, and therefore to improve the welfare of children and students, at the service of our society”.
